After the massive fire in the Omiš area, there was immense damage and many heartbreaking personal stories, but it also sparked great solidarity. One of those stories got its continuation today. Ivica Tafra from Stanići received a new trailer purchased by Mate Skender and Domagoj Tomasović, after the fire destroyed nearly everything he owned.
Skender and Tomasović set off early in the morning towards Stanići with the new trailer, determined to at least slightly ease the difficult situation of a man whose story after the devastating fire moved many.
Ivica Tafra lost his workshop in the fire, and among the things he lost was a new trailer he had been saving up for a long time. Even before the fire, his life was challenging. Due to poor health, he struggled to gather money for medication, and the fire further worsened his daily life.
His story became known after he spoke with RTL reporter Marina Brcković. When talking about everything he had lost, Tafra couldn't hold back his tears, and what hit him the hardest was losing the trailer he had only recently bought.
Despite everything, he said he "won't give up and will start saving again to buy a new one someday." At the same time, he emphasized that he "doesn't want anyone to deprive themselves or their family of something to help him."
His story did not go unnoticed. Mate Skender and Domagoj Tomasović decided to help Tafra concretely by buying him a new trailer. In the morning, they headed to his home in Stanići to deliver it to him personally.
At a time when people in the fire-affected area are tallying up the damage and trying to rebuild their lives, their gesture is yet another example of the solidarity that emerged after the disaster.
For Mate Skender, helping people affected by this fire didn't start with buying the trailer. Skender also took part in rescuing people during the fire, when the flames in the Omiš area threatened homes and residents. After helping on the ground during the toughest moments, he and Domagoj Tomasović have now decided to help even after the fire was extinguished.
For Ivica Tafra, the new trailer may not make up for everything he lost in the fire, but it's a concrete step towards a normal life. After all the devastation seen in the Omiš area in recent days, the story from Stanići reveals another side of the catastrophe, people willing to help their neighbors when they need it most.
