Real Madrid has officially confirmed the transfer of 19-year-old forward Jacobo Ortega to French club Strasbourg. According to Spanish newspaper AS, Strasbourg will pay €10 million for 70 percent of the player's rights, while Real retains the remaining 30 percent. What particularly draws attention is the fact that Ortega never played for the Madrid club's senior team.

Highest fee ever for a player without a senior appearance

According to AS, this is the highest fee Real has ever received for a player from its academy who did not make it to the senior squad. Strasbourg has publicly announced the signing, and it has been confirmed that Ortega has signed a contract binding him until the summer of 2031. In this way, the young Spanish striker moves from Real's C team straight to France's Ligue 1.

Eight seasons in the academy, 18 goals in a season

Ortega joined Real in 2018 as a 12-year-old and spent eight seasons in the club's academy. Last season, he won the UEFA Youth League with Real's Juvenil A, and in that competition, he was also the Madrid club's top scorer. In the 2025/26 season, he played for Juvenil A, Real Madrid C, and Castilla, scoring a total of 18 goals.

From a €16 million valuation to a compromise

At the end of July, AS reported that Real valued Ortega at €16 million. Strasbourg initially intended to pay €8 million for half of the rights, but in the end, the clubs reached an agreement: €10 million for 70 percent of the player's rights. Ortega also had options in Spain, with Elche standing out among the clubs interested in him.

Ultimately, his choice fell on Strasbourg and the project of the club owned by BlueCo group, which also owns Chelsea. Real has already made a solid profit this summer by selling many players from its academy, and Ortega is yet another proof of the model in which the Madrid club sells young players for large sums but retains a portion of the rights to potentially profit further in the future.
