The €10.5 million project to reconstruct and modernize county road ŽC 6142 is about to enter a crucial phase. This approximately five-kilometer stretch, which passes through Podstrana, Žrnovnica, and Tugare, is set to undergo a complete transformation, with work potentially beginning once a contractor is selected.

Dalmacija Danas has learned that the prior consultation concludes on Monday, August 10, 2026, after which the public procurement tender is expected to be announced imminently. The tender itself could be published within the next few days.

Tender by mid-September, contractor in October

It is important to note that the publication of the tender does not mean work will start immediately. According to current estimates, the public procurement process could be completed by mid-September 2026. This will be followed by the review and evaluation of submitted bids.

If there are no appeals, which could prolong the entire process, the selection of the contractor is expected in October 2026. This would pave the way for the realization of this significant infrastructure project.

What does the project entail?

The project aims to increase the safety and functionality of the existing road and improve connectivity of the area with Omiš and Split. The planned works include road surface renewal, construction of sidewalks, public lighting, and a sewage network. For public transport passengers, 14 new bus bays are also planned.

Special attention will be given to traffic-heavy intersections. Specifically, at the intersection towards Naklice, a dedicated left-turn lane is planned, and interventions are also planned at the intersection near the post office in Tugare.

Reducing pressure on the Adriatic Highway

The reconstruction of road ŽC 6142 is expected to have a broader traffic impact, particularly in reducing pressure on the Adriatic Highway. The planned deadline for completing all works is two years.

The Government of the Republic of Croatia has secured €10 million for this reconstruction, which constitutes the largest portion of the total project value estimated at €10.5 million.
