During the summer period, there has been an increase in property-related crimes, including break-ins into homes, apartments, and cars, as well as thefts on the shores and the stealing of e-bikes and electric scooters. Therefore, officers from the Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Department are visiting the busiest tourist spots and providing recommendations to local residents and visitors on how to protect their belongings, as reported on the Fiuman.hr portal on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Information booths are being set up on beaches, adjacent parking lots, campsites, marinas, and tourist complexes. Alongside Croatian police officers, colleagues from Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Germany are also engaged, speaking with tourists in their native languages.
Visits to Kostanj, Kostabela, and Kantrida
Over the past two weeks, police officers from the 1st Police Station Rijeka have been distributing leaflets with self-protection tips at Rijeka's beaches Kostanj, Kostabela, and Kantrida, as well as their associated parking areas.
Similar actions have been carried out in other parts of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. In Malinska, officers from the Krk Police Station, together with a colleague from Slovenia, organized an information booth, joined by a Red Cross worker from Krk; they also visited the Punta center, the beach, and the Pila campsite.
On the island of Rab, police officers toured the Padova 3 campsite and the Suha Punta settlement, while in the Crikvenica area, with a Slovak police officer, they held booths in Crikvenica and Novi Vinodolski. Members of the 2nd Police Station Rijeka set up a booth in Kraljevica and also used the grand celebration of the Assumption of Mary on Trsat to engage with the public.
During this season, the police are distributing educational materials with recommendations to hospitality venues on the shores and main squares to ensure the information reaches as many people as possible.
Warnings for Swimmers and Boat Operators
In addition to theft prevention, officers are also warning citizens and tourists about safe behavior rules at sea. Swimmers are advised not to venture more than 100 meters from the shore and not to swim toward boats, ships, or jet skis.
Boat captains are reminded of the legal distances from the shore. Ships and seaplanes must maintain a distance of at least 300 meters from the shore, yachts 150 meters, and smaller motorboats and sailboats 50 meters.
Due to the heat, extra attention is focused on child safety. The police warn that children must not be left unattended in cars, even for a short time.
New Points Starting Tuesday
The Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Department has announced the continuation of preventive activities over the next two weeks. The next booths are scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The schedule includes points at Kostabela beach in Rijeka, in Selce at Jasenova 19, leaflet distribution in Čavle for the Bartoja celebration, Kantrida beach in Rijeka, the San Marino campsite on Rab, Jadranovo at Kloštar bb, the Interspar shopping center in Rujevica, and a point in Vrbovsko.
The purpose of these measures is to reduce the number of thefts and other crimes during the summer season and to educate citizens and tourists on how to protect themselves, their property, and others in traffic and at sea.
