This weekend, Rijeka was the epicenter of youth sports in Croatia. The finals of the 30th season of the Plazma Youth Sports Games welcomed over 2,500 finalists from across the country, culminating in spectacular small-sided football matches. The best of the best earned their place at the grand International Finals, set to take place in Split from August 17 to 22.

The event, which brought together more than 138,000 children and young people, reaffirms its status as the largest amateur sports gathering in Europe. In small-sided football alone, 155 qualifying tournaments were held from January through June, featuring over 50,000 players.

Football Rulers from Kvarner and Istria

The Coca-Cola Cup finals brought excitement to the pitches at Zamet, Srdoči, and Kastav. In the 2008 age group and younger, the team Balki i prijatelji iz Karlovca claimed the gold medal and a spot in Split. In the younger category, 2011 and under, MNK Futsal Pula triumphed, while the girls of ŽNK Arena Pula took home the title of best female football team.

Particularly intriguing was the Tommy small-sided football tournament for players under 12, where the team Zadranova was crowned the new National Champion.

Chess Elite and Tennis Gems

At the Wiener osiguranje chess tournament, young masters from the region adorned themselves with titles. In the under-11 category, Alan Katušić from Crikvenica and Ema Poljak Ljubić took gold. Among the older competitors, up to 15 years old, Petra Vidić and Tin Biti celebrated victory.

Tennis players played their finals at an impressive venue, the Goran Ivanišević Stadium as part of ATP Umag. Gold medals in the 2012 age group and younger were won by Lena Fonai and Pavo Zoričić.

Basketball Battles and the Sands of Kantrida

In the fast and exciting 3x3 basketball of the Sprite Cup, the best team in the men's 2013 age group and younger was Pazin. In the 2011 age group, the basketball players of Six Seven from Dugopolje and the basketball players of Borik Bjelovar celebrated.

Beach volleyball took place at Kantrida and in Opatija, with the winning trophies going to the teams Tuljani from Rijeka and Mile from Opatija.

All winners now turn their focus to Split, where in less than a week a new battle for prestigious international titles will begin.
