Roma has confirmed the permanent transfer of 19-year-old Rodrigo Mora from Porto. The talented midfielder is expected to bolster Gasperini's squad for the Champions League.
Italian Serie A side Roma signed one of Portuguese football's biggest talents, 19-year-old midfielder Rodrigo Mora, from Porto on Wednesday. The transfer was confirmed via an official statement from the Roman club.
"Roma is pleased to announce the permanent transfer of Rodrigo Mora," the club stated, although it did not disclose the contract duration. FC Porto, on the other hand, announced that Roma will pay up to €27 million, with €25 million fixed and €2 million in potential bonuses.
Mora made 80 appearances for Porto, scoring 16 goals across all competitions. According to Gazzetta dello Sport's statistics, he made 28 appearances in the Primeira Liga last season, with one goal and one assist. The season before, he was significantly more productive, netting 10 goals in 23 matches.
In European competitions for Porto, he played 14 matches in the Europa League, scoring 3 goals and providing one assist, while in the Portuguese Cup he made 8 appearances with one goal.
Roma, led by Gianpiero Gasperini, finished third in the Italian league last season and are competing in the Champions League this season for the first time since the 2018/2019 campaign. Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Mora will play as a trequartista, or attacking midfielder, in Gasperini's 3-4-2-1 formation.
The young Portuguese is expected to provide rest for one of Dybala or Soulé, and his arrival brings unpredictability and dribbling to the Roman club's attacking line. Gazzetta highlights his speed in tight spaces and ability to move between the lines, along with a tendency to cut inside and shoot with his right foot.
For fantacalcio enthusiasts, Mora is listed by Gazzetta as a midfielder with a value of 26 credits. He is recommended as a solid second or third choice for your team, and in auction formats, it's justified to spend up to 5% of your budget.
Gazzetta warns that Mora, who is experiencing his first stint outside Portugal, will need an initial adjustment period to Italian football and Gasperini's tactical demands. Nevertheless, alongside Dybala, the youngster born in 2007 could make a difference in the opponent's half.
