The world eagerly awaits whether Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez will tie the knot on August 8, but the couple didn't appear at the church, and his sister calls out the media.
The alleged wedding of one of the greatest footballers in history, Cristiano Ronaldo, and his long-time partner Georgina Rodriguez, has turned into a real media circus. The ceremony was expected on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 4 PM Croatian time, at the cathedral in Funchal, Madeira, but the couple didn't show up by the expected time.
Outside the cathedral in the capital of Madeira, a crowd of curious onlookers and fans gathered hoping to witness the wedding of the year. However, instead of the Portuguese football star and his fiancée, a local couple's wedding was taking place inside the church. Witnesses on social media also noted the absence of heavy security, which further fueled suspicions that Ronaldo's wedding wouldn't happen at this location and time.
Ronaldo's sister, Elma Aveiro, commented on the whole situation on her Instagram profile. She sharply criticized media reports, emphasizing that her brother never officially confirmed the wedding date.
"But why do those people (outside the cathedral, ed.) think Ronaldo would get married if he hasn't announced it himself? They don't realize that the media don't know anything; they want to know everything, so they make things up," Aveiro wrote on Instagram.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner and his partner have still not come forward with any confirmation or denial of the wedding on today's date. His private jet was reportedly seen in Madeira, which further fueled speculation, but those gathered outside the cathedral can only wait and wonder whether the 41-year-old Portuguese, who grew up in a poor neighborhood on this very island, will indeed decide to step to the altar.
