Hajduk has officially presented their new signing at the center-back position. Dennis Hadžikadunić, a 28-year-old defender, arrived at Poljud as a free agent and signed a contract with the Whites until the summer of 2028. He will join the first team's training sessions on Tuesday and will wear the number 6 jersey.
In two seasons in Germany, Hadžikadunić played 49 matches for HSV, scoring twice. In the last season, he played a total of 28 matches for Italian side Sampdoria. Experience from strong leagues and big clubs, according to those who know him, makes him ready for the challenge in Split.
Emir Sahiti, a former Hajduk winger, played with Hadžikadunić at HSV and described him as a major signing for Dalmatinski portal. "It was a great season; we got promoted to the first league. In my opinion, he's an excellent player, a reinforcement for Hajduk, extremely strong in duels, experienced. He's played at big clubs, in strong leagues. He's good on the ball, has a leap, wins duels, is fast-he has everything needed for a center-back," Sahiti said.
He also compared him to former Hajduk defender Ardian Ismajli. "Comparison? Honestly, I'd say like Ismajli. Strong in duels, fast. He's always positive-minded, gives 200% every time, doesn't hold back. That's how I'd put it, that style. Maybe even better on the ball than Ardian," Sahiti claims.
Sahiti revealed that he had been persuading Hadžikadunić to join Hajduk while they were playing together in Germany, before any transfer talk even started. "When we were together, I once told him: 'Bro, if the situation arises where Hajduk offers you a contract, you must accept it, see what that feeling is like, running out in front of Torcida at Poljud.' I hope he'll be the same Dennis I saw here. I think his teammates will help him adapt as quickly as possible," Sahiti said.
He added that Hadžikadunić was well-liked among fans and people at HSV. "Great, both the fans and the people at the club loved him here; everyone respected him. You have players who come on loan and sit on the bench, but he was a regular. After seven years, HSV returned to the league," Sahiti concluded.
