The president of Most, Nikola Grmoja, called on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, all opposition parliamentary clubs to an urgent meeting to agree on a joint motion of no confidence in the government of Andrej Plenković and to convene an emergency session of the Croatian Parliament. However, the invitation was rejected by SDP and We Can!, Grmoja confirmed at a press conference in Zagreb.
We Can! directly confirmed that they will not attend the meeting, while the president of SDP, Siniša Hajdaš Dončić, stated that for his party, the first step is an emergency session of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Nature Protection, which is already scheduled for Friday in Gospić. Grmoja announced that Most will attend that session.
The reason for Grmoja's call is the Lika affair, i.e., the environmental disaster linked to illegal dumping of hazardous waste in the Gospić area. The president of Most emphasized that this is a matter of national importance. "That is why we sent an invitation to all party clubs, all parliamentary clubs, all political parties, even those in power, to attend the meeting today so we can see what more we can do," Grmoja said.
He specifically highlighted the work of Most's MP Zvonimir Troskot, who, according to Grmoja, has been going to Lika since March 2025 at the invitation of local residents and uncovering this issue. "When our Zvonimir Troskot was on the ground in Lika week after week, as president, I wondered why such engagement, why so persistent, and why so many press conferences. Now the whole of Croatia, and even I who was skeptical, know what this is about. I didn't know the scale of this disaster, and I couldn't believe that people who were given the trust of Croatian citizens would be willing to do something like that for money," he said.
Grmoja also criticized part of the media, claiming they boycotted this topic. "Many press conferences that Troskot held on the ground were not covered by HINA; we were subjected to a boycott, and now everything has finally come to light," he stated for HRT.
Regarding further political steps, Grmoja is clear: Most demands an emergency session of the Parliament. "That is an emergency session of the Croatian Parliament, which can only be convened by the President of the Republic, but also by the Speaker of the Parliament if requested by parliamentary clubs. I hope we will agree that this is necessary," he said. He also added that he does not consider public hearings necessary because, as he claims, the entire public is already familiar with the actors and responsibilities.
Commenting on the rejection by SDP and We Can!, Grmoja said: "How could you betray those who gave you their trust? It is clear that it is difficult to face such a truth, it is clear that it is not easy for them to come to such a meeting, but then we expect the rest of the opposition to attend." Despite the failure of today's meeting, he announced that Most will attend the session of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Nature Protection in Gospić.
