Police found more than 435 grams of cocaine, digital scales, and hundreds of empty bags for street sales on the 52-year-old and in his home in Gruž. The judge ordered him into pre-trial detention for up to 30 days.
The head of security at the renowned Dubrovnik nightclub Revelin, 52-year-old N.K., was arrested on Friday evening after selling a gram of cocaine to a Serbian national in the old town area. The sale was spotted by undercover police officers at 11:58 PM, who immediately intervened, confiscated the drugs from the buyer, and then took the security guard, employed by the company Perak protektor, into custody.
What followed uncovered an extensive street-level drug distribution network. Upon arrest, N.K. voluntarily handed over three packages containing a total of 2.8 grams of cocaine hidden in his clothing. However, a thorough search revealed he had also concealed drugs in an item that was part of his work equipment-a modified walkie-talkie casing-where another three packages with 2.4 grams of cocaine were found.
Based on a warrant from the County Court in Dubrovnik, on Saturday, August 8, police searched the apartment in Dubrovnik used by the suspect. In the family home in the Gruž district, a significantly larger haul was discovered: four larger packages containing a total of 430 grams of cocaine, two precision digital scales, and as many as 294 empty PVC bags intended for street sales.
"Police officers from the Drug Crime Department of the Dubrovnik-Neretva Police Administration have completed a criminal investigation into a 52-year-old Croatian citizen suspected of committing the criminal offense of unauthorized production and trafficking of drugs," the police statement said.
A criminal complaint was filed against N.K. with the Municipal State Attorney's Office. His defense attorney proposed a more lenient measure, emphasizing that the 52-year-old expressed remorse after his arrest and voluntarily surrendered the stash he had hidden at home. However, the investigating judge did not relent, assessing that there was a high degree of criminal intent and a risk of reoffending.
As an aggravating circumstance, the fact that N.K., as the head of security at the nightclub, was responsible for the safety of patrons while simultaneously selling drugs was also taken into account. He was ordered into pre-trial detention for up to one month, after which he was transferred to the Dubrovnik Prison.
