Police have concluded a criminal investigation into a man suspected of breaking into a bookstore, a healthcare facility, and a pharmacy, targeting the same coffee machine twice.
Zagreb police have filed a special report with the competent state attorney's office against a 45-year-old man, charging him with a series of aggravated thefts in Zaprešić. According to the Zagreb Police Department, the suspect is linked to a total of four criminal offenses, two of which remained attempts, committed between January 17, 2025, and May 30, 2026.
The total material damage he caused is estimated at approximately 1,460 euros. This is a man who has been investigated and criminally reported multiple times by Zagreb police over the years for various offenses. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
The first incident in the series occurred on the night of January 17-18, 2025. The suspect arrived at a bookstore in Zaprešić and attempted to force open the entrance door using a suitable tool. Failing in his attempt, he left the scene but forgot the tool he had used. This incident was classified by police as an attempted aggravated theft.
The second offense took place on April 16, 2026, in the evening hours. The suspect arrived at a healthcare facility in Zaprešić, used a suitable tool to open the entrance door, and entered the building. He then used the same tool to force open a coffee and snack vending machine, from which he stole cash.
The final incident occurred on May 30, 2026, in the afternoon, when the suspect returned to the same healthcare facility. He again used a tool to open the entrance door, broke into the coffee and snack vending machine, and took cash. Afterward, he went upstairs and forced open the pharmacy door. He entered the space but quickly left without taking anything, so this case was also recorded as an attempted aggravated theft.
Following the completion of the criminal investigation, police forwarded the special report to the competent state attorney's office through regular channels. The judicial authorities will make the final decision on possible prosecution.
