Going to the emergency room is stressful in itself, and when you find yourself in a life-threatening situation, the composure of the medical staff can mean the difference between panic and calm. It is precisely such an experience, filled with gratitude and admiration, that a patient shared on the Facebook page Hitna uživo 194 after being attacked by six hornets.

The woman, who is otherwise allergic to insect stings, quickly began to experience serious symptoms. "The team was composed and calm. They put me on oxygen, started an IV, and added a Solu-Medrol injection to the drip; they couldn't measure my blood pressure. The doctor gave the go-ahead to head to the hospital, and there's a part I don't remember-not long, just a few seconds-but the next thing I know, another injection through the needle in my arm and the doctor saying, 'It's okay, it's okay,' and her words that I should get another injection," she described her first moments with the Emergency Medical Institute team.

A Welcome That Instills Confidence

Upon arriving at the Bjelovar hospital, the reception at the Emergency Department (OHBP) completely took her by surprise, as she put it. She highlighted the feeling of special importance and safety they provided. "Outside, we were greeted by a doctor and a medical technician. You know that feeling like you're especially important and that you're safe. The doctor who took over my care checked on me every so often. A young technician came by very frequently, and a nurse with blonde hair tied in a ponytail. They changed the dressings on my head and watched to see if I was swelling because five of the stings were on my head," she recounted.

Despite the seriousness of the situation and the fact that she sustained five stings to the head, the patient remained composed, and she fully credits the medical team for that. "In short, all praise for both teams. Hats off for everything-expertise, calmness. I was fine," she emphasized.

She Witnessed the Demanding Nature of the Job

During her stay in the ER, she also witnessed other severe cases unfolding in parallel with her treatment. "In one of the bays, a woman was dying; she was in very bad shape. A little girl was brought in whose face had been cut up by a ventilator, and there was also a traffic accident. Everything, absolutely everything, was handled so calmly and professionally that the other patients didn't even know what was really going on," she said.

As a laboratory technician by training, though not currently working in the field, she noted that her experience working in a nursing home makes her more aware of and understanding of the complexity of situations. She concluded her story with another thank you: "Once again, many thanks and hats off."
