The catastrophic fire that swept through the Omiš area last week has claimed a life. Dragana Antešević (34), a Bosnian national who came to Croatia for seasonal work, was last seen on August 13, 2026, fleeing the blaze in the Stanići area.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Croatian National Tourist Board have extended their condolences to the family of the deceased, but it has not yet been officially confirmed that the victim is indeed Dragana. Meanwhile, one body has been found at the fire site.
Emotional Farewell from Sister on Facebook
Dragana's younger sister, Nina Slavnić, bid her a touching farewell on Facebook. We share her post in full:
"My Dragana, my sister, my only one... I still can't accept that you're gone. I keep waiting for you to appear, to hear your voice, to hug you and have you tell me everything will be okay. Then reality hits me again, and I realize that this time life took you, leaving me with a void that nothing and no one will ever be able to fill."
Nina wrote that she never knew a person could hurt so much for someone they love, and that Dragana's name will forever be both her most beautiful memory and her deepest wound.
"If only I had known that one day would be our last, I would have held you tighter. I would have told you a thousand more times how much I love you. I wouldn't have let you go from my embrace."
In the heartbreaking post, her sister recalled their shared moments, smiles, and words, promising to cherish all the memories and talk about her for as long as she breathes.
"I Can't Say Goodbye to You, Because You Don't Say Goodbye to a Sister"
Nina Slavnić also said that she isn't saying goodbye to her sister, but rather learning to live with the fact that she can't hug her, yet she will carry her within her for as long as she lives. She believes Dragana is now in a place where there is no fear, pain, fire, or tears.
"If you can hear me somewhere, I just want you to know one thing: I LOVE YOU. I will love you for as long as I exist. You didn't leave my life, Dragana. You just went somewhere I can't follow yet."
The farewell message ends with a promise that when they meet again one day, she will hug her as tightly as she can, and with the words: "Until then, sleep peacefully, my sister. Forever your sister. Forever my Dragana."
