In the night between August 11 and 12, at exactly 2:43 AM, the National Center for Search and Rescue Coordination at Sea (MRCC) in Rijeka received a report of a maritime accident on Dugi Otok. The call, relayed through the Zadar Maritime and Airport Police Station, was made by a Slovenian citizen who reported that his own boat had struck a fish farm cage.
The collision occurred between Cape Gubac and Cape Žman, near the village of Luka. According to initial reports from the scene, two people were aboard the 15-meter boat at the time of the incident, both Slovenian nationals. They were the vessel's operator, who is also its owner, and one additional passenger.
Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident. The Zadar Harbor Master's Office and the Sali Harbor Master's Office Sub-Office were immediately notified, and their officers promptly set sail to the reported location to conduct an investigation.
After a preliminary inspection at the accident site, officers from the Sali sub-office determined that no sea pollution had occurred. They thoroughly examined both the boat and the surrounding waters and confirmed there were no visible signs of contamination.
The boat's operator has been instructed on further legal procedures to determine the exact cause of this maritime accident. He will independently arrange for the towing of his damaged vessel, having already requested the services of a commercial company specialized in providing assistance to vessels and crews at sea.
