The final of the water polo Wild League in Dubrovnik's Porto, the old city harbor, is traditionally one of the most anticipated sporting events in the city, alongside the Feast of Saint Blaise and the opening of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. This year's edition, held today, Saturday, August 9, 2026, raises the bar to an entirely new level, turning into a true media and entertainment spectacle.
The organizers have confirmed that the finale will be covered by as many as 11 television cameras, with an additional camera mounted on a drone. Such a level of production is not even seen at the Champions League final. The broadcast of the matches is provided by two TV channels, SPTV and HVS TV, with the celebrated Croatian national team player Maro Joković serving as co-commentator.
HTV Films Documentary Series, Libertas TV Arrives
The event gains special weight with the arrival of a Croatian Television crew, which is in Dubrovnik filming a documentary series about the Wild League, a unique sporting story based on pure enthusiasm. A Libertas TV crew is also present, marking a historic peak in media coverage of this local competition.
Exhibition Match with Acting Stars
The central part of the program is not reserved solely for competitive matches. At 5 PM, an exhibition match is scheduled, pitting a team composed of representatives from the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County against a team from the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. For the latter, actors Goran Višnjić and Goran Grgić are expected to play, while Alen and Miho Bošković will take to the water for the city and county team. The county prefect and the president of the City Council are also expected to jump into the water.
Numerous famous faces will witness the spectacle from the stands. One of Croatia's most esteemed actresses, Zrinka Cvitešić, has announced her arrival and will cheer on the participants from the poolside.
Prkačin, Španja, and Perrone Hand Out Trophies
The closing ceremony will also be marked by sporting greats. Trophies will be presented to the best by Nikša Prkačin, Mihovil Španja, Nikša Dobud, and Elvis Fatović, with Felipe Perrone also confirming his attendance.
Finale Schedule
The program begins at 4 PM with the third-place match between Bellevue Beach and Elite. Then, at 5 PM, the exhibition match follows, and the highlight of the evening is scheduled for 5:45 PM when Porporela and FUN H2O will face off in the final for the championship title.
