Split Dominates: Record 770,000 Passengers in July

Split Airport recorded a historic record in July with 770,000 passengers, making it the busiest airport in Croatia for that month. This data confirms the dominance of Split Airport on the domestic market during the peak tourist season.
"In July, we had 770,000 passengers and achieved the highest traffic of any airport in Croatia, which speaks to our market availability," Mate Melvan, head of the Passenger Handling Service at Split Airport, told Hina.
According to data, daily traffic in July and August ranged between 22,000 and 29,000 passengers, with no day recording fewer than 22,000 passengers. The load factor for all routes in July reached a high 85 percent.
Of the approximately 900,000 available seats, around 130,000 remain unsold, indicating strong demand but also room for further growth. For comparison, Dubrovnik Airport had 558,000 passengers in the same period, while Zagreb Airport had 468,000.
The peak of the season is not only felt at the airport. Split's city port expects more than 75,000 passengers and 18,000 vehicles this weekend. Due to increased traffic, additional lines have been introduced.
"Yesterday, we had two additional lines on the most frequent route to Supetar, and this morning an extra line to Supetar was also introduced at 9:30 AM," said Jelena Ivulić, head of Jadrolinija's office for the Split sailing area.
This weekend, Split Airport expects 205 aircraft and 56,000 passengers. Forecasts for August are also optimistic, with an expected 740,000 to 750,000 passengers.
Referring to recent incidents, Melvan warned of the danger of unreported drones near the airport. "Drones that are not reported pose a threat and are treated as such; they have a negative impact on air traffic," Melvan said, adding that those who use them improperly will face negative consequences.
