Ten years after winning gold at the Olympic Games in Rio, Croatian athlete Sara Kolak finally experienced the thrill of standing on the winner's podium. According to Slobodna Dalmacija, her first throw of 62.43 meters was enough to secure the European champion title.

Second place went to German competitor Julia Ulbricht with a throw of 61.53 meters, while Serbian athlete Adriana Vilagoš took third with a javelin throw of 60.93 meters.

An Emotional Moment That Went Viral Across the Region

After the final series, when the standings had taken their definitive shape, Sara and Adriana warmly greeted each other and embraced, and the footage of this emotional moment quickly spread across the internet. Upon returning to Belgrade, the Serbian athlete spoke about that embrace and her relationship with the Croatian competitor.

"When I started throwing the javelin, she was at the peak of her career and had won Olympic gold. I remember she was one of my favorite throwers back then. Ever since I've been competing against her, I've always been pleased, primarily because we can talk in our own language. She had a really tough ten years, full of struggles and battles, so I'm extremely happy she won gold and is throwing this well," said Adriana.

Impressions After Winning the Medal

Vilagoš also shared her impressions after winning the bronze medal, admitting that not everything went according to plan.

"After a few hours of sleep due to an early flight, the impressions haven't fully sunk in. I can say we didn't plan or expect it to go this way. In the end, the medal is here, even though it's bronze. We hoped for the best possible scenario, the perfect throw and placement, but there are days when we have to settle for what is. This serves as strong motivation to build on it in the future, and of course, the goal remains to do better next time in two years," she said.

She also reflected on her performance, noting that the competition was demanding.

"In both the qualifiers and the final, there was a lot of struggle. It was a tough competition for me; we need to analyze it and learn what we need to do. The most important thing is that one throw went far enough for a medal. I'm not satisfied with that; it's not what I aim for and what I want, but sometimes we have to be realistic, accept that these things happen, and move forward even stronger," concluded Adriana.
