The start of the week brings instability across Croatia, with an orange warning issued for the Rijeka region. Temperatures could drop significantly.
After extremely hot days and broken temperature records, Croatia is set for a sudden weather change on Monday. According to the forecast by Dunja Plačko-Vršnak, B.Sc. in meteorology from the State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ), a stronger cloud cover and noticeably cooler weather are arriving from the west. Locally, heavy showers, thunderstorms, hail, and stormy wind gusts are possible, and waterspouts may occur in the Adriatic.
Already in the morning, a stronger cloud cover will affect the northern Adriatic and Gorski Kotar, where rain is expected in places. In the afternoon and evening, it will increasingly turn into showers with thunderstorms, and locally, severe thunderstorms and hail are possible. The wind will be moderate from the south and southwest, with occasional strong gusts. The highest daily temperature in the mountainous region will be between 27 and 30 °C, and at the coast between 29 and 32 °C.
The central Adriatic and the interior of Dalmatia will see gradual cloud cover after a sunny morning. Local showers with thunderstorms, sometimes more intense, are most likely in the late afternoon and during the night. The wind will suddenly shift from southwest to northwest, with a moderately rough to rough sea. Morning temperatures in the central Adriatic and the interior of Dalmatia will range from 22 to 24 °C, in the Zagora region from 17 to 19 °C, and during the day it will be hot, from 32 to 34 °C. The day will remain hot before the change arrives.
The south of Croatia will remain mostly sunny and hot, with a maximum temperature of up to 33 °C, while an increase in cloud cover is expected in the evening and during the night. A weak to moderate southerly wind will blow, turning to southwest in the afternoon.
Due to the approaching storm, the meteoalarm has been activated for almost the entire country, and an orange warning has been issued for the Rijeka region.
In eastern Croatia, the day will start mostly sunny, but then cloud cover will increase. Towards the evening and during the night, local showers and thunderstorms are possible, sometimes more intense, accompanied by strong winds, especially in western Slavonia. The lowest morning temperature will be between 14 and 18 °C, and the highest daily temperature between 32 and 34 °C.
Cloud cover will also spread over central Croatia during the morning. In the late afternoon, the probability of local showers and thunderstorms increases, sometimes more intense, accompanied by strong winds. In the morning, temperatures will range from 14 to 18 °C, and during the day from 29 to 31 °C.
Temperatures could drop significantly, and heavy precipitation is on the way-here's when
On Tuesday, the mainland will see variable cloudiness and cooler weather, with occasional rain mainly in the morning, while showers are possible in the afternoon. Wednesday brings sunnier conditions, and Thursday will be cloudier and warmer again.
On the Adriatic, Tuesday will also be changeable, especially in Dalmatia, where local showers are expected. Wednesday will be mostly sunny, while on Thursday, instability with showers is expected again in the northern Adriatic. The bura wind will blow, and from Wednesday, the jugo wind, as forecasted for HRT by Dunja Plačko-Vršnak, B.Sc. in meteorology from DHMZ.
According to DHMZ, traditionally after the Assumption of Mary, a week of changeable weather with showers follows. The daily maximum will only exceed 30 degrees on Thursday, while nights will be warm, with temperatures above 20 degrees at the end of the week. The worst will be on Friday, when rain will fall all day, and the next weekend should pass without precipitation, with temperatures up to a maximum of 30 degrees.
For Monday, DHMZ announces a gradual increase in cloud cover from the northwest, mainly in the afternoon and evening, with rain and showers accompanied by thunderstorms. A moderate north and northwest wind will blow, occasionally with instability and strong gusts. The lowest morning air temperature will be between 13 and 18, and the highest daily temperature between 28 and 33 °C. On Tuesday, it will be variably cloudy and less hot during the day, with occasional rain still in the night and morning, locally possibly heavier, then more frequent sunny periods, but still not completely stable, so a little rain or an occasional shower may fall in places. The wind will be mostly weak, with the lowest air temperature between 15 and 20, and the highest daily temperature between 27 and 32 °C.
