Student Katarina Đukić Named Best Player at European University Games

The European University Games, held in Salerno, Italy, brought together more than 4,000 students from over 400 universities across Europe. Among the more than 400 Croatian athletes, Katarina Đukić, a student at the Faculty of Kinesiology and the new captain of ŽNK Osijek, stood out by winning the award for the best player of the football tournament.

The women's football team of the University of Zagreb achieved an excellent result by finishing second, and Đukić earned individual recognition with her performances, confirming her talent and potential. This success comes at a time when she has taken over the captain's armband at the Osijek club, further highlighting her status in Croatian women's football.

Proud Coach: "Young and Promising"

ŽNK Osijek coach Robert Špehar did not hide his satisfaction with his captain's success. "Katarina Đukić represents exactly what the Osijek women's team is - young and promising," Špehar said for Danas.net.hr, emphasizing that she is a player who embodies the club's vision.

While waiting for the return of the best player of the European University Games from preparations, the Osijek women have already shown their strength in a friendly match against Vojvodina. They celebrated a 1-0 victory against a team that was at the top of the Serbian league last season, missing out on European qualification by just one point.

Building the Future on Young Talent

In Osijek, they are deliberately building a team for the future. The squad is full of U-17 and U-19 national team players, which is both the club's and coach Špehar's strategic goal. The award Đukić won in Salerno is further confirmation that investing in young players and their development pays off.
