After months of construction, residents and visitors of Zagreb's Donji grad can breathe a sigh of relief starting Saturday, August 8, 2026. Motor vehicle and public transport traffic in the Vjesnik area will be restored from 8 a.m., announced the Mayor's Office of the City of Zagreb on Friday, August 7.

Good news also comes for drivers on Prilaz Gjure Deželića. This road will be open to all traffic four hours earlier, i.e., from 4 a.m. The section from Trg Vladka Mačeka to Primorska Street will open, fully completing the renovation of that part of the city.

What Was Done in the Vjesnik Area

The re-establishment of traffic near Vjesnik follows the completion of the demolition of the old Vjesnik building and extensive sidewalk rehabilitation on the upper level of Slavonska Avenue, near the intersection with Savska Road. The Mayor's Office statement details the scope of the works carried out.

"During the works, the sidewalk and manhole covers were repaired at points where the roadway had sunk, horizontal traffic signage was renewed, and side drainage channels were cleaned. This restores the traffic regime in the area to what it was before the fire in the Vjesnik building, including the Vjesnik bus stop," the Mayor's Office stated.

This means that public city transport lines that had been operating on altered routes due to the works will also return to their original routes.
