Summary
  • Saturday, August 8, brings hot and unstable weather with showers and thunderstorms, especially inland.
  • A strong and gale-force bora will blow on the northern Adriatic, with a heat wave warning in effect.
  • The highest temperatures, from 35 to 38°C, are expected in Dalmatia and southern Croatia.

Another hot and unstable summer weekend lies ahead. Kristina Klemenčić Novinc, a forecaster at the State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ), told HRT that Saturday, August 8, 2026, will be marked by high temperatures across most of Croatia, along with local instability bringing rain and thunderstorms, especially inland.

Hot and Humid Inland with Possible Showers

Eastern Croatia will see partly sunny weather. "With passing clouds, scattered rain and thunderstorms are more likely in the first part of the day," Klemenčić Novinc forecast. Winds will be moderate from the north and northeast, easing in the afternoon. The morning low will be around 21°C, with daytime highs between 31 and 33°C.

A similar situation is expected in central Croatia, where temperatures will be slightly lower. The night and morning will bring passing cloud cover, with locally heavier showers possible. After that, frequent sunny spells will follow with light to moderate northeast winds.

Strong Bora on the Northern Adriatic, Heat Warning Still in Effect

The northern Adriatic coast will be significantly windier. A moderate to strong bora will blow, with gale-force gusts at the foot of Velebit. The western part of the country will be partly sunny, while the coast and islands will be mostly sunny. Local cloud development in the afternoon could bring the odd shower to Istria and Gorski Kotar.

Temperatures will vary widely: the morning low in the mountains will be around 16°C, in inland Istria from 19 to 22°C, and in some parts of the northern Adriatic up to 28°C. Daytime highs will mostly range between 27 and 32°C, but could reach up to 34°C on the northern Adriatic. The heat wave warning remains in effect.

Dalmatia and the South: Danger of Heat Up to 38°C

"There is a very high health risk from heat in mostly sunny Dalmatia as well," the forecaster told HRT. Daytime temperatures will occasionally reach 37°C. Inland, afternoon cloud development will bring local showers with thunderstorms, which could extend to the coast. A light bora will blow, moderate in the north, briefly turning to northwest and southwest winds by midday.

In the far south of Croatia, the sea will be calm or slightly choppy, with mostly warm nights. The day will be hot, with highs between 35 and 38°C. Despite plenty of sunshine, afternoon showers are possible, mainly in Konavle.

What to Expect in the Coming Days?

According to Kristina Klemenčić Novinc's forecast, inland areas will see mostly sunny days ahead, with rising daytime temperatures. "From Monday, heat warnings will be issued everywhere again," she announced. The odd afternoon shower may occur mainly in inland Dalmatia and Gorski Kotar, and on Tuesday elsewhere as well. Winds will be mostly light.

At the coast, the coming days will bring plenty of sunshine. During the night and morning, a light to moderate bora will blow, still strong under Velebit on Sunday. During the day, it will turn to northwest and southwest winds, with temperatures remaining largely unchanged.
