The Referee Commission of the Croatian Football Federation, led by Bertrand Layec, released on Tuesday an analysis of five situations from Round 3 of the SuperSport HNL. In all five cases, one from each match, the commission fully supported the decisions of the referees, as announced on the HNS official website.
The first analyzed situation occurred in the 58th minute of the match between Dinamo and Rudeš. A Rudeš player wearing number 21 pulled the shirt of Dinamo's number 30 after he had entered the penalty area. Referee Dragašević awarded a penalty kick and sent off the visiting defender, and the commission confirmed that it was a denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity without an attempt to play the ball.
In the 3rd minute of the match between Istra 1961 and Slaven Belupo, referee Kolarić sent off the visiting defender with number 99 for tripping Istra's number 10 as he sprinted toward goal. The foul occurred outside the penalty area, so a direct free kick was awarded, and the commission deemed the decision correct.
The third red card was shown in stoppage time of the Osijek - Lokomotiva match (90+5 minutes). Referee Terzić showed a red card to Lokomotiva's defender with number 17, identified by HRT as Marko Pajač, for a forceful elbow movement toward an opponent's face. The commission determined that the elbow was in an elevated position and endangered the opponent's safety.
In the 30th minute of the Varaždin - Rijeka match, referee Vukančić awarded a penalty kick to the home team after Rijeka's defender with number 11 handled the ball in the penalty area. The commission emphasized that the arm was clearly away from the body and above shoulder height, in an unnatural position.
The final situation occurred in the 76th minute of the Gorica - Hajduk match. Referee Pavlešić awarded a penalty kick to Gorica after Hajduk's player with number 38 struck the left foot of Gorica's forward with number 9. The commission found that the attacker reached the ball first, and the defender was late, making contact with the attacker's foot before touching the ball.
While refereeing decisions in the domestic league are being analyzed, Croatian champions GNK Dinamo will play the first leg of their Champions League playoff against Norwegian side Viking at Maksimir tonight. The official HNS Twitter profile wished the club luck in a post: "One step from @ChampionsLeague: Croatian champions @gnkdinamo host Norwegian side Viking at Maksimir today in the first leg of the playoff - good luck!"
