A traffic accident in Vinkovci has revealed an incredible case: two drivers collided, and neither should have been behind the wheel. According to a police report carried by Osijek Express, a 48-year-old driver of a passenger car with Vinkovci plates failed to yield to an 83-year-old driver, also in a vehicle with Vinkovci plates, who was coming from the opposite direction.
The accident occurred the day before yesterday at an intersection where the younger driver, while turning left, failed to yield to the older driver, who was continuing straight. After the investigation, the police determined that both drivers should not have been on the road.
"The aforementioned 48-year-old driver was operating a vehicle at a time when his driver's license had been revoked; he was placed in a special room pursuant to the provisions of the Misdemeanor Act, and his vehicle was temporarily seized. An expedited procedure will be conducted before the competent court," the police stated.
The other participant was also in the wrong. "The injured 83-year-old driver was also driving while a ban on operating a 'B' category vehicle was in effect, and he has been removed from road traffic," the police added.
The Croatian Automobile Club (HAK), in its report dated August 13, 2026, warns of numerous traffic difficulties. On the A1 motorway connecting Zagreb, Ploče, and Karamatići, at the Demerje toll station, in the direction of Zagreb, a one-kilometer-long queue has formed, while a traffic accident occurred at kilometer 25+000, between the Jastrebarsko and Karlovac exits, in the direction of Dubrovnik.
In the zone between the Grič and Plasina tunnels, in the direction of Zagreb, traffic is moving with occasional stops due to increased vehicle density. Traffic is periodically halted in the Grič tunnel for safety reasons, and the queue in front of the tunnel is 4 km long. A traffic accident occurred in the Čelinka tunnel, resulting in a speed limit of 60 km/h.
On the A4 Goričan-Zagreb, in the Hrastovec tunnel in the direction of Zagreb, a passenger vehicle has broken down, so traffic is being directed through one lane with a speed limit of 40 km/h. On the DC8 state road between Novi Vinodolski and Karlobag, due to strong winds, there is a traffic ban for vehicles in Group I, including motorcycles, vehicles with trailers, and double-decker buses. Increased traffic density is also recorded on the Krk Bridge in both directions.
On the A3 Bregana-Lipovac, there is increased traffic density on the approach to the roadworks zone between the Lučko and Zagreb zapad interchanges. Drainage rehabilitation on the section between the Popovača and Kutina interchanges in the direction of Lipovac will last until September 1, 2026, while works between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad interchanges will last until October 3, 2026.
For the upcoming day, August 14, 2026, HAK predicts congestion and traffic disruptions on most roads leading to the coast, with an emphasis on motorways, approaches to tourist destinations along the coastal road (DC8), the Solin-Klis expressway (DC1), and the Krk Bridge. Tomorrow, from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, there will be a ban on the movement of trucks with a maximum permissible mass exceeding 7.5 tons on state roads along the Adriatic coast.
At the border crossings of Gornji Varoš, Ličko Petrovo Selo, Svilaj, Bajakovo, Karasovići, and Tovarnik, queues for passenger vehicles are expected.
