Orange Alert Tomorrow: Karlovac and Osijek Region Under Threat

An orange alert is in effect for the Karlovac area and the entire Osijek region, including Vukovar-Srijem County, due to extremely high temperatures expected tomorrow, August 11, 2026. The warning was issued by the State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ) and relayed by county emergency centers 112.

Temperatures up to 39°C

According to the forecast, tomorrow will be extremely hot. Maximum daily air temperatures will range between 34 and 39°C. In the Osijek region, a maximum of 36°C is expected. Mornings inland will be somewhat cooler, with temperatures between 16 and 21°C, while on the coast and islands, the lowest morning temperatures will be between 22 and 27°C.

Possible showers in Istria and Gorski Kotar

Although the morning will be mostly clear, from midday inland and in the northern Adriatic, a small to moderate cloud cover is expected. Locally stronger cloud development could bring the occasional shower and thunderstorm, mostly in Istria and Gorski Kotar. In the Adriatic, a weak to moderate bora wind will blow, later turning to a northwest and southwest wind.

DHMZ appeal: Protect the most vulnerable

The DHMZ has also issued a clear appeal to citizens, particularly emphasizing the health risk for vulnerable population groups.

"Be prepared for the onset of health risks due to heat and high temperatures among the vulnerable population, especially the elderly and young children. Listen to and follow the advice given by the competent services," they said from the DHMZ.

The orange alert indicates dangerous weather conditions that can affect health as well as infrastructure. Citizens are advised to avoid sun exposure during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of fluids, and follow the instructions of the competent services.
