Last night, on August 11, 2026, at 9:20 PM in the settlement of Gornji Popovac in the Slunj area, a traffic accident occurred in which a 60-year-old female e-bike rider was seriously injured. According to her statement, the accident was caused by a dog that suddenly ran out of the undergrowth from the right side of the road.
To avoid hitting the animal, the 60-year-old woman abruptly turned the handlebars, lost her balance, and fell onto the road. The dog then ran off in an unknown direction. An investigation by police officers determined that the woman was not wearing a protective helmet while riding, which likely contributed to the severity of her injuries.
The police have announced further criminal investigation to establish all the circumstances of the accident, and the relevant state attorney's office will also be notified. The news was published by Karlovački, Radio Mrežnica, and OG Portal Ogulin.
On the same day, August 11, in the afternoon, police officers in Duga Resa stopped a 64-year-old driver of a passenger car with Karlovac license plates. He was found to have 1.58 per mille of alcohol in his blood. He was placed in police holding cells until he sobered up, and he will face sanctions under the provisions of the Road Traffic Safety Act.
The police are also investigating the theft of tractor parts that occurred between August 9 and 11 in Ozalj. An unknown perpetrator stole tractor parts from a meadow next to a family home belonging to a 26-year-old man, with an estimated value of over 950 euros, according to the article's author Tonko Tomičić for Radio Mrežnica.
