In a traffic accident that occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at approximately 8:55 AM in the Karlovac neighborhood of Švarča, a 28-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured. According to the police report, the accident was caused by a 64-year-old car driver who began a left turn without first checking the traffic situation.
How the Accident Happened
According to the Karlovac Police Department, the 64-year-old was driving a car with Karlovac license plates and was traveling along Riječka Street toward Senjska Street. At a point where the road goes uphill and has two lanes, he began turning left.
The police determined that before turning, the driver "did not make sure he could do so without endangering other road users", resulting in a motorcycle with Karlovac license plates colliding with his car. The 28-year-old motorcyclist was traveling in the left lane, going in the same direction.
Motorcyclist Ends Up in Stormwater Drain
Due to the force of the impact, the motorcyclist and his motorcycle fell onto the road and then slid off the road into a stormwater drain. An inspection of the scene revealed that the motorcyclist was wearing a protective helmet, which likely reduced the severity of his injuries.
The police will file a criminal report against the 64-year-old man with the competent prosecutor's office.
