Police will file a misdemeanor charge against the 18-year-old, and an investigation is underway to determine who provided the car.
A serious traffic accident occurred in the night from Monday to Tuesday, August 4, 2026, near Brodski Drenovac. At around 3:30 AM, an 18-year-old without a valid driver's license lost control of the vehicle, struck a tree, and ended up in the Orljava riverbed.
According to police reports, the young driver was operating a passenger car before obtaining the legal right to drive. Due to speed not adjusted to road conditions, he first veered onto the shoulder, then continued across agricultural land. After hitting a tree, the vehicle came to a stop in the nearly dry Orljava riverbed.
The force of the impact left the 18-year-old with severe injuries, requiring immediate medical transport. Photos from the scene, published by DVD Pleternica and taken by V. Čolak, testify to the severity of the crash.
The young man will face a misdemeanor charge for multiple violations of the Road Traffic Safety Act. However, the story doesn't end there. Police have also announced further criminal investigation to determine who provided the vehicle to an individual without the legal right to drive, and under what circumstances.
This incident once again raises questions about vehicle owner responsibility and the serious consequences of driving without a license, especially among young people.
