Arjun Aravind, a 17-year-old of Indian origin from Acton, Massachusetts, has been charged with the murder of his mother and younger brother. The investigation revealed that shortly before the crime, he used the internet and ChatGPT to search for ideas about killing his own family, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.

The victims have been identified as 45-year-old Sudha Venkatesan and her 14-year-old son, Siddharth Aravind. Police found their bodies at the family home on Martha Lane on August 11, 2026, at 6:37 p.m. local time, after the father called police because he couldn't reach the family members.

How the Crime Was Discovered

The father last spoke with his wife early in the morning on August 11 before leaving for work, while Siddharth was last seen around noon. A tutor who was supposed to arrive at the house also couldn't contact anyone inside, which further alarmed the family.

When officers arrived at the address, they found Siddharth on the first floor and Sudha in the finished basement. Both had visible injuries. Arjun was not in the house, and his mother's green 2014 Honda Accord was also missing.

Arrest in Wayland

Police alerted other law enforcement agencies and the public to be on the lookout for the teenager and the vehicle. The next day, on August 12, police in Wayland responded to an unrelated alarm at a parking lot on Andrew Avenue, where they found the missing car with Arjun inside. He was arrested without incident.

Prosecutors allege that Arjun fatally attacked his mother and brother in the home, then fled in his mother's car. He is charged with two counts each of murder, assault and battery on a family member, and assault and battery, as well as larceny of a motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Disturbing ChatGPT Searches

The Middlesex District Attorney's Office released a concerning detail: "The subsequent investigation shows that Arjun had recently exhibited concerning behavior, including using the internet and ChatGPT to search for theoretical ideas or fantasies about killing his family."

The Chief Medical Examiner has not yet determined the exact cause and manner of death, and the type of weapon used in the killings remains under investigation. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Acton Police Chief Douglas Sturniolo confirmed that the deaths occurred on Tuesday at the family home.

Court Proceedings

Arjun was scheduled to enter a plea in Lowell Juvenile Court on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Since the juvenile court does not have jurisdiction over a murder charge, he will later enter a plea on that charge and related assault charges at Concord District Court.

Acton is located about 25 to 30 miles northwest of Boston, depending on the source. The case has drawn attention due to its connection to the use of artificial intelligence in planning violence, raising questions about the responsibility of technology platforms.
