Residents of the Belišće area and the Municipality of Marijanci experienced a complete interruption of drinking water supply yesterday, amid unbearable heat. Thermometers in Slavonia showed 39 degrees Celsius when a major rupture occurred on the main water pipeline near the settlement of Kitišanci at 8:30 AM, announced the 112 Center in Osijek.
The drinking water supply was cut off in the suburban settlements of Kitišanci, Bocanjevci, Gorica Valpovačka, Vinogradci, Tiborjanci, Gat, and Veliškovci, as well as in the settlements of the Municipality of Marijanci: Marijanci, Bočkinci, Brezovica, Čamagajevci, Črnkovci, and Kunišinci. The situation was particularly difficult because the breakdown occurred in the middle of one of the hottest days of the summer, making the water shortage an even greater burden for the local population.
To mitigate the consequences, Vodovod Osijek and its branch in Belišće delivered two tankers of drinking water. Meanwhile, volunteer fire departments from surrounding towns provided sanitary water for residents' needs. The fault was repaired at 3:58 PM, after which regular water supply was restored.
