After the Feast of the Assumption, Osijek and Slavonia are bracing for another heatwave, the only one in the country. The State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ) has issued a first-level yellow warning for Thursday, in effect from 11 AM to 6 PM, as reported by Osijek Express on August 19, 2026.
Maximum temperatures are expected to exceed 35°C, and DHMZ urges caution due to the anticipated heat. "Health risks are possible among vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly and young children," the warning states.
Along with the warning, DHMZ has released a 7-day forecast showing no rain in sight. Wednesday will see a gradual rise in temperature, potentially reaching 31.9°C, with mostly clear skies during the day.
According to the current forecast, the real heatwave hits on Thursday. Sunny weather is expected with a maximum temperature of 37.6°C, while morning temperatures will hover around 22.7°C.
Friday will also be extremely hot, with a high of 36.2°C. Saturday is forecast to be slightly cooler, with temperatures up to 31.2°C. On Sunday, temperatures could reach 32.8°C, while Monday is expected to see a maximum of 33.4°C.
The start of next week brings no significant relief either. Tuesday is again predicted to be around 35.3°C. Based on current information, the hottest days will be Thursday and Friday, when temperatures in Osijek will exceed 35°C.
