The football match between Hajduk and Istra 1961 at Split's Poljud stadium on Saturday evening took on a strong political overtone. In the 15th minute, the Torcida fan group raised a large banner with a message aimed directly at Chief State Attorney Ivan Turudić, listing a series of well-known Croatian scandals that still have no final court ruling.
The banner read: "Radosti, here's some more unprocessed cases: Vjetroelektrane Affair, Mikroskop, Hipodrom, Banožić, Janaf..." Torcida added: "And they lecture us, these false moral pillars, who sell out Croatia and ideals for small change."
The message was split into two parts and, according to reports from Poljud, was raised in the north stand, drawing massive attention. As early as the 10th minute, Torcida set off several flares and chanted "Hold on, Miše!"
The banner came just six days after Ivan Turudić appeared on RTL Danas and discussed incidents at the match between Varaždin and Hajduk, when part of the Torcida group set fire to seats in the away section. On that occasion, Turudić stated: "It's important that punishments are certain and swift. Here, sanctions in both criminal and misdemeanor proceedings are not fast enough."
He added that misdemeanor cases can end up statute-barred, citing the major fan clash near Desinac as an example, saying he wasn't sure if it had ever been processed. In the same interview, he confirmed that USKOK is conducting an investigation related to Hajduk and reviewing the club's documentation.
The word "Radosti" in the message is a direct allusion to the correspondence between Ivan Turudić and Josipa Rimac, now Pleslić, which was published in 2024. Among the hundreds of messages that came to light, the one that stood out was where Rimac wrote "Di si radosti" and Turudić replied "Di si lipa."
Josipa Pleslić is the first defendant in the Vjetroelektrane affair, one of several that Torcida listed on the banner. Others include the Mikroskopi affair linked to former Health Minister Vilij Beroš, the Hipodrom affair, and Janaf. None of these cases have yet reached a final court ruling.
Hajduk played Istra 1961 in the 2nd round of the SuperSport HNL, kicking off at 9 PM. The Whites returned from Vilnius on Friday, where they had beaten Žalgiris 5-2 the day before in the first leg of the Conference League third qualifying round. In their first league match, Hajduk lost 2-1 away to Varaždin, while Istra, led by Spanish coach Javier Cabello, lost 3-2 to Lokomotiva at home.
Coach Garcia was still without the injured Brajković. The main referee was Mateo Erceg from Benkovac, assisted by Stipe Brajković from Šibenik and Vinko Podrug from Zagreb. The fourth official was Filip Dragašević from Zagreb, with Ivan Matić from Osijek on VAR and Dario Kulušić from Šibenik as assistant VAR.
