On Saturday, August 1, 2026, a fire broke out in a family home in Sveti Križ Začretje, claiming the lives of three people. The news was confirmed by the Krapina-Zagorje Police Department, with more details expected following the investigation.

Earlier that same morning, firefighters were also busy in Dalmatia. According to the portal eZadar, a fire that broke out at Vidikovac Čelinka in Dragama, in the municipality of Pakoštane, was successfully extinguished, preventing the spread of flames to the surrounding area. Vidikovac Čelinka, situated on a hill between the sea and Vrana Lake, is one of the most popular natural viewpoints in Zadar County.
An investigation will be conducted at the fire site to determine the exact cause. Although unofficial information on social media suggested the fire may have been sparked by fireworks during the celebration of Pakoštane Municipality Day, these speculations have not yet been officially confirmed.
