On August 16, 2026, police officers stopped a 42-year-old man in Kaštel Stari who was found to have 2.33 promille of alcohol in his blood. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, and according to police, he had already been legally convicted once for drunk driving, with another proceeding against him ongoing.
The driver was taken into custody and brought before the court the next day. The police requested 15 days of detention due to the risk of reoffending, along with a proposed prison sentence of 60 days, a fine of 130 euros, and revocation of his driver's license for all categories for one year. However, the Municipal Misdemeanor Court in Split acquitted him on August 17, with a final decision on penalties to be made later.

The police also highlighted the case of a 23-year-old North Macedonian citizen, who was stopped on August 16 at around 1:30 AM on Ulica Hrvatske mornarice in Split. The analysis showed the presence of marijuana and cocaine, after which he refused a medical examination and blood and urine tests.
A criminal complaint was filed against him, and the police requested a fine of 1,320 euros and a three-month driving ban for B-category vehicles. The Municipal Misdemeanor Court in Split found him guilty and sentenced him to 30 days in prison, suspended for six months.
Without a License Since 2021
Another serious traffic violation was recorded at the Orah border crossing. On August 14 at 3:15 PM, police officers stopped a 29-year-old man who was driving despite having his driver's license revoked back in 2021 due to 12 negative points.
He had not regained the right to drive since then.
