A lawsuit has been filed against U.S. President Donald Trump over a new service on the social network Truth Social that allows clients earlier access to his posts, German news agency dpa reported on Thursday. The suit was filed on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, by The Intercept Media and the Freedom of the Press Foundation, according to court documents.
The service, called Truth API, sells access to posts by the president and other prominent users within, as stated, "milliseconds." Clients pay between $60,000 and $100,000 per month for this, and according to Kevin McGurn, acting manager of Truth Media & Technology Group (TMTG), more than 10 clients have signed up, mostly financial market firms.
The plaintiffs described the model as "deeply corrupt and unconstitutional," claiming it harms their access to information, according to court documents. The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation argue that the service gives subscribers an advantage by allowing them access to potentially market-moving presidential posts before the public.
The lawsuit seeks to bar the White House from exclusively publishing official statements on Truth Social while the paid service is active. Trump regularly uses the social network for major announcements, including tariffs and military conflicts, dpa reports.
Faster access to the president's posts can give investors a significant edge, especially in automated trading where even fractions of a second matter. McGurn added earlier this week that the company is also in talks with potential clients in the artificial intelligence sector.
The plan to sell faster access to posts by Trump and other prominent users has drawn criticism in the United States. TMTG owns Truth Social, and the Truth API service is promoted as a solution for businesses that want to receive posts almost instantly.
