The Turkish football league has become the stage for a true transfer spectacle this summer. After Mohamed Salah arrived in Trabzon, Romelu Lukaku in Fenerbahçe, and Dušan Vlahović in Beşiktaş, Trabzonspor is now bringing in another attractive name, former Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez, Klix.ba reported on August 13, 2026, citing reliable Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu.
Agreement with Player Reached, Negotiations with Al-Hilal Ongoing
According to information released by journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, Trabzonspor officials reached an agreement today on the contract details with the Uruguayan striker. They are currently focused on finalizing the deal with Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia, where Núñez currently plays, and it is believed that the club will not create major obstacles to approving this transfer.
Slobodna Dalmacija also reports that Trabzonspor is in final negotiations to bring in another attractive striker, and Núñez arrives after a rather unsuccessful season at Al-Hilal, where he is not in coach Simone Inzaghi's plans.
From Liverpool's Big Miss to Saudi Episode
Núñez is 27 years old and is known as Liverpool's big miss, having been paid nearly 100 million euros for him in 2022. At Anfield, he became synonymous with unbelievable misses, scoring 40 goals in 143 matches for the English club.
He left Liverpool a year ago for 53 million euros and moved to Al-Hilal, where he scored nine goals and provided five assists in 24 matches. According to Slobodna Dalmacija, Núñez played for Benfica and Liverpool during his career in Europe, the latter for nearly a hundred million euros, but he never fully realized his potential.
Transfer Wave Shaking Turkey
Núñez's arrival is just a continuation of a series of major transfers into Turkish football. In recent days, Mohamed Salah joined Trabzonspor, Romelu Lukaku joined Fenerbahçe, and Dušan Vlahović joined Beşiktaş in the Super Lig, and now confirmation of Núñez's transfer is also expected.
