Prosecution Seeks Prison for 22-Year-Old

The Municipal State Attorney's Office in Karlovac has filed an indictment against a 22-year-old from the Karlovac area for the criminal offenses of domestic violence and causing bodily harm. The victim is his common-law partner, and the period of abuse lasted from November 2024 to March 30, 2026.
According to the indictment, the defendant repeatedly subjected his partner, with whom he lived first in a family house and then in an apartment in Karlovac, to psychological and physical violence. During this period, he insulted her with derogatory names, belittled her, humiliated her, and told her she was sick and needed treatment.
In addition to verbal abuse, he is also charged with multiple physical assaults. The indictment states that he pushed her, beat her with his fists and feet, grabbed her by the hair, and struck her in the head, arms, and legs. This behavior caused the victim to feel fear, humiliation, and a violation of her dignity.
Particularly highlighted is an incident from late March 2026, when he struck her multiple times in the knees and squeezed her forearm. On that occasion, she sustained bruises to both knees and her left forearm, which a medical expert characterized as minor bodily injuries.
During questioning, the 22-year-old rejected most of the charges. He only admitted that there were arguments and that he grabbed her arms in some situations to, as he claims, calm her down. He denied systematic physical violence.
The prosecution has requested that the court impose a single prison sentence of twelve months and two weeks for these two offenses. Additionally, it has requested the extension of previously imposed precautionary measures due to the risk of reoffending.
