New rules of conduct in Zadar's historic core have begun to be enforced in practice, and according to the latest data from the City, only a few warnings have been recorded. All visitors who were warned immediately complied with the instructions, confirmed the City of Zadar for eZadar.
Signs reminding visitors to dress appropriately were placed at the entrances to the historic core a few weeks ago. Since then, municipal wardens have on several occasions cautioned a small number of visitors, mostly men who were walking around the Peninsula without a shirt.
From the Administrative Department for Communal Affairs and Environmental Protection, they say that so far there has been no need to impose fines. "After the warning, everyone immediately dressed appropriately, so there was no need to impose sanctions," they responded from that city department.
In all situations so far, a warning was enough for tourists to put on a shirt and continue on their way. No fines have been issued for inappropriate attire so far.
The City emphasizes that the rules are not applied equally in all parts of the Peninsula, and that specific circumstances are taken into account. During the summer, the area of the Riva and the Sun Salutation is particularly highlighted because swimming there is common.
At these locations, municipal wardens primarily warn citizens and visitors about appropriate behavior, acting reasonably and in accordance with the circumstances. "They do not apply strict measures in situations that do not require sanctioning," they say from the Administrative Department.
Therefore, it seems for now that the new rules, at least in terms of the actions of municipal wardens, are more a means of warning than punishment. Visitors who have so far received a warning for inappropriate attire have accepted the request and immediately dressed more appropriately.
