The state news agency WAM reported that the United Arab Emirates has halted all goods exchange and monetary flows with Iran without a specified deadline. The decision was confirmed by the Director of Strategic Communications at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Although no further details were disclosed, this move by the UAE came after its Ministry of Defense reported that two Iranian ballistic missiles had been detected. According to the statement, these missiles were aimed at maritime traffic.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on platform X: "In light of regional escalations that undermine regional and international peace and security, all trade, commercial exchange, and financial transactions with Iran have been suspended until further notice."
Earlier in the day, the UAE Ministry of Defense announced that the country's air defense systems had identified the launch of two ballistic missiles from Iran. One of them fell outside the UAE's territorial waters. The attack was directed at maritime navigation, the ministry added.
The decision comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, which escalated following joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran. In response, Tehran carried out attacks on countries hosting American military equipment, one of which is the UAE.
In mid-June 2026, with Pakistan's mediation, Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict and establishing lasting peace. However, those negotiations collapsed. Reasons cited include disputes over the terms of the document itself and disagreements regarding passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global route for energy transport.
