  • Ukraine has used British drones for strikes deep inside Russia over the past six months.
  • The jet-powered Nyan drone and another unnamed British drone were used.

Ukraine has begun using British drones for long-range strikes on Russian territory, The Times reported, citing sources in the Ukrainian armed forces. According to The Kyiv Independent, which quotes The Times, British drones have been used in attacks over the past six months.

Nyan and Another Unnamed Drone

Among the weapons used is the jet-powered Nyan drone. Sources disagree on the manufacturer of this drone: NOELREPORTS UA states it is produced by BAE Systems, while Military Summary, citing The Sunday Times, claims the manufacturer is the British company Callen-Lenz. In addition to the Nyan, another British drone has been used, whose name and manufacturer have not been disclosed for security reasons.

According to The Times, the Nyan drone was used in an attack on Belgorod, a city near the border with Ukraine. British drones also struck oil refineries near Moscow, as well as in Yaroslavl and Volgograd. The Times did not specify which British drones were used in these attacks.

Most Strikes Still Use Ukrainian Systems

One source from the Ukrainian armed forces told The Times that Ukraine uses domestically produced drones for most of its long-range strikes, but that British drones are also being used successfully. The Nyan drone is designed for long-range strikes in highly contested environments, according to BAE Systems' website. It has been tested on land and at sea, including during the Spring Storm exercise in Estonia, and has also been launched from the Royal Navy's experimental ship XV Patrick Blackett.

Warning from Former Air Marshal

A source from the UK Ministry of Defence told The Sunday Times that "London was showing Moscow that it no longer worries about a potential Russian response." However, former Air Marshal Greg Bagwell warned that "such attacks could give Russia grounds to consider British drone production facilities as legitimate targets."

On the night of August 15-16, 2026, Ukraine struck the Kamensky Combine, a solid rocket fuel factory in the Rostov region, near the Ukrainian border.
