Acting Defense Minister of Ukraine Yevhen Hmara stated on August 13, 2026, that Ukraine will "shut down Russia's war machine" by destroying infrastructure, fleet, logistics, fuel and energy facilities, and enterprises working for the war against Ukraine. The statement followed a combined Ukrainian attack on the Russian naval base in Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Krai.
As Hmara clarified in a statement released by the Ministry of Defense on social media, the operation against Novorossiysk was unique in that it involved a combined strike using missiles, jet drones, and naval unmanned vehicles. "Russia has proven powerless against the synchronized action of Ukrainian strike assets," he emphasized.
According to data published by Ukrainska Pravda, Ukrainian forces struck the naval base in Novorossiysk on the night of August 12, damaging four Russian military ships to varying degrees. President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier reported that the attack used 'Palianytsia' drones and 'Neptune' missiles.
In his statement, Hmara stressed that intensifying deep strikes on Russia is one of the key priorities of Ukraine's defense. "Together with Commander-in-Chief Drapatyi, the General Staff, the SBS, the SBU, other components of the defense forces, and manufacturers, we will increase this pressure," he said. He added that this is the result of joint efforts and "synergy that is strengthening within the defense forces." He also announced that future operations will be harder to counter, that Ukrainian weapons will be produced in larger quantities, and that strikes will become more precise.
Alongside the official statement, Hmara also sent a short but clear message via the Telegram channel NOELREPORTS UA: "Russia will burn." This statement, translated from English, further reinforced the impression that Kyiv intends to intensify attacks on targets deep inside Russian territory.
