As reported by 24sata, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has officially approved the Dovbush T40, a strategic-purpose unmanned system fully produced on Ukrainian soil. This move adds a powerful new weapon to Ukraine's arsenal, designed for reconnaissance, fire adjustment, and precision strikes on targets located far behind the front lines.
Development Based on Combat Experience
Behind the T40 system is the same company that developed the already proven Dovbush T20 and Kotyhoroshko drones, which have been on the battlefield since 2022. The ministry stated that these older platforms have proven exceptionally successful in various combat conditions. The T20 model was initially designed for medium-range reconnaissance, real-time artillery adjustment, and strikes on nearby targets.
Engineers leveraged the knowledge gained from that program to design the T40 as a significantly more powerful strike platform with a substantially greater range, intended for operations deep behind enemy lines.

The aircraft can travel over two thousand kilometers and remain airborne continuously for more than 24 hours. According to media reports about the new aircraft, this combination of range and endurance provides Ukrainian forces with the ability, at least in theory, to strike targets deep within Russia, including the Urals and western Siberia.
The T40 has a wingspan of nearly five meters and is powered by a robust engine with electronic fuel injection. Officials involved in the project also highlight its reduced radar signature, making it harder to detect.
Flexibility and Resilience on the Battlefield
The Dovbush T40 can operate in various configurations, functioning either as a one-way attack system, commonly known as a kamikaze drone, or as a platform for dropping munitions on targets. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that the drone is resistant to electronic warfare and mentioned advanced technological equipment integrated into the aircraft.

This development is a key part of Ukraine's asymmetric strategy, which aims to exploit Russia's vast size as a weakness. Ukraine is forcing Moscow to relocate limited air defense resources to protect critical infrastructure and military facilities deep within its territory, thereby stretching Russian defense capacities.
Strategic Strikes on Russia's War Machine
Attacks on military production facilities and energy infrastructure, such as oil refineries, are intended to directly undermine Russia's war machine and deprive the Kremlin of energy export revenues. Ukraine has significantly increased domestic drone production, with the number of manufacturers reportedly growing from just seven in 2022 to at least five hundred today.
This rapid innovation and battlefield adaptation have enabled Ukraine to develop and deploy a wide range of unmanned systems for various tasks, making it a significant innovator in military technology.
