On Monday, August 10, 2026, Ukrainian armed forces carried out a drone attack on a key Russian oil industry facility in the city of Tobolsk in the Tyumen Oblast, in the very heart of Siberia. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the attack, calling it a "very significant achievement" that demonstrates that even the most remote Russian regions are now within reach of Ukraine's deep strikes.
The target of the attack was the central gas fractionation plant of the company SIBUR, which was engulfed in a large fire. According to Ukrainian media reports, this is the ZapSibNeftekhim complex, the largest petrochemical plant in Russia, which is part of SIBUR's holding. Footage from the industrial area shows part of the facility in flames.
What makes this attack particularly significant is its vast distance from Ukrainian borders. Zelensky emphasized that the facility is located at a distance of "more than 2.5 thousand kilometers," making it one of the deepest strikes on Russian territory since the start of the war.
"Today is another achievement of our Armed Forces of Ukraine: another Russian oil industry facility has been hit, and the distance is significant, more than 2.5 thousand kilometers. And that's in Tobolsk, Siberia. Now this region is also accessible to our deep strikes," Zelensky said via his official Telegram channel.
The Ukrainian president stressed that such attacks aim to demonstrate to Russia and its citizens that peace is the only alternative. Citing data from internal polls in Russia, Zelensky claims that the number of Russians who want an end to the conflict is growing.
"We have data from internal polls in Russia that already now the number of people there who would like an end to the war is growing. And that needs to be even more noticeable. So that Putin and his administration, and his FSB officers, and everyone else in the aggressor state equally understand that there is no alternative to peace," Zelensky stated.
In his address, Zelensky also thanked all media, journalists, and bloggers who, as he said, report objectively on the war. He emphasized that this is the first time in Russia's history that it does not have a secure strategic rear and can no longer wage war without military supplies from North Korea.
The attack on Tobolsk is part of Ukraine's ongoing strategy of targeting Russian energy infrastructure deep in the rear, with the aim of undermining Moscow's logistical and economic capacities to wage war. Such long-range strikes also send a strong message about the growing capabilities of Ukrainian forces, despite Russian air defenses. So far, there is no official information about possible casualties or the exact material damage at the facility.
