Six civilians were killed and four injured in Ukrainian missile strikes on Russia's Belgorod region, acting Governor Alexander Shuvaev reported early Monday. Among the injured is a 14-year-old child, the official said on Telegram, as reported by BBC News.
The attacks occurred overnight from Sunday to Monday, August 17, 2026, and represent a continuation of the escalation of mutual air strikes between Russia and Ukraine. Index.hr reports that six people were killed and four wounded in the attack on the village of Koloskovo.
The same night, Russian attacks on Ukraine killed at least seven people and injured more than 39, according to BBC News. Anadolu Agency reports that six civilians were killed in Russia, while two casualties were recorded in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region.
The attacks came just one night after officials described a Ukrainian attack as the "largest" this year, in which at least seven people were killed. A Russian Geran-4 drone strike also hit the Zlatopil area in the Kharkiv region, according to a report from AMK Mapping.
According to the Russian Telegram channel RVvoenkor, people were killed in a missile attack on the village of Koloskovo in the Belgorod region. In addition to the human casualties, one building burned down and a vehicle was damaged, the same source said.
On the other side, Ukrainian authorities had not commented on these attacks at the time of publication. The situation on the ground remains tense, and further information is expected on the extent of the damage and any new casualties.
