In late July, the family of renowned singer Alka Vuica welcomed a new member. Her son, music producer Arian Vuica, and his wife, academic painter Dora Šitum Vuica, became parents to a baby boy. The new parents decided to give their son two names, each carrying deep symbolism tied to Dalmatia and their family roots.
The boy's first name, Lav, was not chosen by chance. The parents found inspiration in the winged lion of Saint Mark, a symbol that has been visible for centuries on historic buildings along the Dalmatian coast. Once associated with the Venetian Republic, this symbol is a common sight in Dalmatia and represents a strong connection to the region.
The second name, Naron, originates from the ancient city of Narona, which was located in the area of today's Vid near Metković. It is from this region that Arian's grandfather hails, making the boy's name a lasting link to the family's past.
"It was important to us that the name be different and special, yet still have a traditional connection to our family. The winged lion of Saint Mark is a common sight throughout our Dalmatia, so our Lav is a true lion from Narona,"Dora explained to Story.
Dora also shared details about the birth and the early days of parenthood with Story. The boy was born by cesarean section, and everything went smoothly.
"Our son is a big baby, weighing almost four and a half kilograms and measuring 54 centimeters,"the proud mother recounted. In the first weeks, the grandmothers have been a great support.
"My mom came to Zagreb for that reason, and, of course, our Alka is always there for us whenever we need her,"Dora added, confirming that grandmother Alka Vuica is regularly by the young family's side.
