Rapid response by five fire brigades halted the spread of the blaze toward residential buildings, with DVD Lopatinec issuing an urgent appeal to residents.
A fire that broke out on Thursday, August 7, 2026, in the Lopatinec area at one point posed a serious threat to nearby homes. Thanks to the swift reaction of firefighters, the spread of the flames was halted, avoiding major property damage and potential risk to human life.
The operation involved, in addition to local forces from the Lopatinec Volunteer Fire Department (DVD Lopatinec), firefighters from the Čakovec Public Fire Brigade, as well as members of DVD Zasadbreg, DVD Vučetinec, and DVD Brezje. Their coordinated efforts prevented the fire from spreading to residential buildings and causing a disaster.
DVD Lopatinec expressed gratitude to all participants in the operation for their assistance and dedicated work on the ground.
Following this operation, DVD Lopatinec issued a serious warning to local residents. They emphasize that the fire broke out during an extremely dry period when the risk of fire ignition and rapid spread is exceptionally high. They particularly appeal for responsible behavior when handling fire outdoors.
Fire does not forgive. Accidents happen precisely when we least expect them. Let us be responsible, cautious, and not underestimate the power of fire, they urged from DVD Lopatinec.
Firefighters call on citizens to strictly adhere to the ban on open burning and not to underestimate the danger posed by even the smallest ignition source, such as a spark or a cigarette butt.
Let us protect our place, our homes, and be responsible, is another message from DVD Lopatinec.
It was emphasized that a single moment of carelessness is enough to cause a large-scale fire that can threaten property, nature, and human lives.
