The blaze that erupted in the area of Ivanica in the neighboring country of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which started in the afternoon hours of August 18, 2026, has not yet been brought under control. Air Tractor aircraft from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which refill at Dubrovnik Airport, are also participating in the extinguishing efforts, confirmed the county fire chief Stjepan Simović for DuList.
Firefighters from the Dubrovnik area on the ground
Firefighting units from Župa dubrovačka and Dubrovnik were dispatched to the intervention during yesterday. Today, August 19, firefighters are conducting patrols, and as Stjepan Simović points out to DuList, "the fire currently does not threaten to cross the border, but caution is needed."
Wind hampers extinguishing efforts
According to a report from Dubrovniknet, firefighters from the Dubrovnik area participated in the extinguishing, however, unfavorable weather conditions, with wind being the biggest problem, led to the fire's re-activation. Dubrovački dnevnik reports that the situation has improved, but the fire is still active, and an Air Tractor is also involved in the extinguishing.
Discrepancies over the number of aircraft
Sources disagree on the number of Air Tractor aircraft involved in the extinguishing. While DuList reports that two Air Tractors from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina are fighting the fire, Dubrovački dnevnik mentions one Air Tractor. We are reporting both pieces of information as published by the sources, without taking sides.
The situation is being monitored along the border, and firefighting forces remain on alert to prevent any potential spread of the fire towards Croatian territory.
