On Thursday afternoon, shortly after 3 PM, a large fire broke out in the warehouse of the Varaždin-based company Energo-S, whose operations are related to electrical installations. Thick black smoke quickly spread over part of the city, and explosions could be heard from the site.
The Varaždin Public Fire Brigade confirmed to Telegram that around fifty firefighters responded to the incident and that the fire has been brought under control. Meanwhile, the police secured the surrounding neighborhood, moved curious onlookers away, and ensured unobstructed passage for emergency vehicles.
According to initial reports from HRT, the fire was preceded by an explosion in the company's premises. N1, on the other hand, unofficially learns that "detonations can be heard" at the scene. What exactly exploded and whether there has been additional property damage is not yet known.
Firefighters have no information about any injured persons. Additionally, it is still not determined what sparked the fire or in which part of the building it started. Further details will only be known after the operation concludes and the relevant authorities conduct an investigation.
Residents in the vicinity are advised not to approach the intervention site to avoid hindering the work of firefighters and other emergency services.
