US Open organizers confirmed on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, that Venus Williams, a two-time champion of the tournament, has received a special wild card for this year's women's singles, N1 BiH reports.
The 46-year-old American, holder of seven Grand Slam titles, was stopped in the first round at Flushing Meadows last year, when she was defeated by Czech player Karolína Muchová.
The tournament organizing committee also noted that the name of the recipient of the second special wild card for the women's singles will be announced at a later date.
A day earlier, on Monday, August 17, Venus and her sister Serena Williams played together in doubles for the first time since 2022. However, their appearance at the Cincinnati Open ended in the first round.
The wild card for the US Open means that the home crowd will once again have the opportunity to watch one of the most decorated players in history on the courts where she has lifted the trophy twice.
