Weekend Brings 22 Accidents, Motorcyclist with 1.24 Promille Seriously Injured

The past weekend on Istrian roads was marked by 22 traffic accidents, in which 14 people were injured. The Istrian Police Department reported that the most serious accident occurred near Poreč, where a 33-year-old motorcyclist sustained severe injuries.
The accident occurred on August 15 at around 1:15 a.m., when the 33-year-old, under the influence of alcohol at 1.24 promille, was riding a motorcycle with Pula license plates along Ulica Antonci. Due to speed inappropriate for the road and weather conditions, he lost control of the motorcycle and fell onto the road.
He was then transported to the hospital in Pula, where he remained for treatment due to severe bodily injuries. Of the 22 recorded accidents, 12 involved injuries, while 10 resulted only in material damage.
During the weekend, police officers checked 622 vehicles and drivers. During the operation, 20 drivers and two vehicles were removed from traffic. A total of 353 violations under the Road Traffic Safety Act were recorded, of which 119 were for speeding, 41 for not wearing seat belts, 14 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 13 for using mobile phones while driving, two for unregistered and technically uninspected vehicles, and 164 for other violations.
In addition to the seriously injured motorcyclist, 13 people sustained minor injuries in traffic accidents that occurred between August 14 and 16 in the Istria County area.
