Summer in eastern Croatia is entering its liveliest phase, and the weekend ahead offers plenty of reasons to step out of the house. From religious gatherings and concerts to sporting competitions, the program is so diverse that everyone will find something to enjoy.
Aljmaš Ready for Thousands of Pilgrims
The centerpiece of the weekend is the celebration of the Assumption of Mary in Aljmaš. The local Shrine of Our Lady of Refuge will once again be one of the main destinations for believers from all over Croatia and abroad, especially on Friday and Saturday when thousands of visitors are expected.
In addition to numerous Masses and devotions, a candlelight procession, Eucharistic adoration, and a concert of spiritual music are organized. Special Masses are dedicated to victims of the Homeland War, as well as to young married couples and their families.
Osijek: Tamburica Evening and Theater Performance
As part of the Osijek Summer of Culture, on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 8 PM in the Franjo Krežma Concert Hall, the Croatian Cultural and Artistic Society "Osijek 1862" will perform a vocal-instrumental concert titled "Bećarski nokturno" (Bachanal Nocturne). The repertoire blends tradition with a contemporary approach to tamburica music, confirming that the tamburica still holds a prominent place on concert stages.
The following day, on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 6 PM and 8 PM in the Small Hall of the Osijek Cultural Center, the play "Inner Bitch" directed by Tatjana Bertok Zupković will be performed.
Nova Gradiška Music Summer Celebrates 30th Birthday
Nova Gradiška becomes the region's musical hub for four days thanks to the jubilee 30th edition of the Nova Gradiška Music Summer. The festival opens on Thursday with Galija, Bijelo dugme, Bore Balboa, and Pekija, while Friday features Adi Šoša, Nikola Rokvić, and Z++.
Saturday's program brings Petar Grašo and Indira Forza, with DJ Kneža closing the evening. The final day is reserved for a traditional tamburica evening with the Nova Gradiška City Tamburica Orchestra and the legendary Zvonko Bogdan.

Brod Fortress on Saturday, August 15, 2026, hosts Disco Under the Stars, a dance event that has attracted fans of timeless hits in previous years. DJ Igy and friends will set the atmosphere, taking the audience through the greatest hits of the 80s, 90s, and 2000s.
Electronic music lovers will find their place at PAPUKTECH Open Air 2026 in Velika, an all-night techno event held on Saturday. On the stage at the foot of Papuk, ACOR, Gina Beldam, Karlo M., BRUNEXA, and Simple Domain will perform, with an after-party extending the fun into the early morning hours.
Straw Art and Outdoor Sports
On Thursday, August 13, 2026, the jubilee 20th Slama Land Art Festival begins, this time dedicated to the theme "Family." Pustara Kozjak near Kopački Rit once again becomes a place where artists create sculptures and installations from straw in the open air, and visitors can follow the entire creative process.
At Lake Đola, a volleyball tournament organized by the Đola Association will take place on Saturday and Sunday. The goal is to bring the community together through sports and socializing, with an entry fee of 20 euros per team. The team captain submits the application, and the most successful participants can expect prizes.
Osijek Opens Home Season at Pampas
